Graduation Season

It’s Monday and we’re still trying to gather ourselves from the weekend.  We know the girls have softball practice today but hopefully that’s it.  Maybe I should say Don and I are still trying to gather ourselves.  The kids are out of school for the summer so they slept in.  This weekend was rather busy for us.  We called it graduation weekend although no one in our home graduated.  We love to celebrate others accomplishments.  Don’s younger brother, DaJuan graduated from Greenville College with his Bachelors of Science in Business Management.  It was wonderful to be there to see him accomplish his goals.  Unfortunately, we were required to stand the entire time because the gymnasium wasn’t large enough to accommodate the crowd.  The kids absolutely hated it.  Halfway through the ceremony, I thought I was going to pass out—you know when your mouth starts to get pasty.  I used the graduation program as a fan and luckily that helped.  My feet were burning by the end.  Afterwards everyone gathered for pictures and then went their separate ways.  We rushed home because the girls had invited some of their softball friends over.  We always manage to have an extra kid or two or three at our home on the weekends.

Their friends arrived shortly after we returned home.  They ate pizza, played some basketball, and ran through the house like maniacs.  I woke up at 3am and they were still wide awake.  I knew they were going to be exhausted the next morning.  Their friends were picked up early on Sunday because we had another graduation scheduled for noon that day.  This time it would be held in an Arena so it would be a sufficient amount of seating.  The traffic and parking would be another story.  We managed to arrive on time despite highway construction and bad drivers.  We located the rest of our family and found our seats.  It was a proud auntie moment for me.  My niece Shamonie graduated from high school and I couldn’t have been more proud.  The scenario was much similar to the day before.  We gathered afterwards to take pictures and we headed out.  We stopped to pick up dinner because I knew I had tons of homework to do and I wouldn’t be cooking.  I always seem to wait until the last-minute to complete my homework.  I am currently taking an online Basic Statistics class in addition to a classroom course.  I haven’t taken math in years so it is somewhat of a struggle.  Even more of a reason I shouldn’t procrastinate.  Luckily Don took Basic Statistics a few classes ago so he has been a HUGE help.  I don’t know what I would do without him.  Later that evening, we watched Oklahoma City Thunder slaughter the Golden State Warriors in Game 3 of the Conference Finals.  I enjoyed that; I am a huge Kevin Durant fan.  Don and I chatted for a while and to bed we went.  What a weekend it was!

The experiences from this weekend taught our children:

To Support Family

The importance of time management skills

Hard work pays off

Never give up on your dreams no matter how many obstacles stand in your way
